Learning

The primary setting for learning is Trinity's Sunday School program, which offers classes for each age level at 9:30 am and classes for combined age groups 10:45 am every Sunday morning.  Emphasis is placed on communicating the faith through biblically based curriculum published by the United Methodist Church.

Our facilities accommodate the needs of the physically limited child.  An elevator, restrooms and drinking fountains for the handicapped and hearing devices in the sanctuary pews assist the physically limited.

Trinity also recognizes the special needs of the mentally and emotionally limited child to be involved in Sunday School classes.  In all but the most severe circumstances, children are "mainstreamed" with their peers.

Children are promoted each fall on Rally Day Sunday  (the Sunday following Labor Day weekend).  Children are sent postcards in August, which share new room assignments.  Other learning opportunities include the following:

  • A weekday Pre-School and Parents' Morning Out Program (brochure available from the church Parlor.)

  • Vacation Bible School for children in Nursery 3 through Fifth Grade (usually a week in July; registration is done in the early spring.)

  • Worship Instruction For First graders (WIFF) - A 6-session class offered in October through November to prepare children for participation in worship.

  • "Touch the Water, Taste the Bread" - a 4-session class for exploring the sacraments with N3 & N4 children.

  • "Learning to Use My Bible" curriculum taught in the third grade class after students receive their bibles.

  • "Lunch and Learn Bible Discovery" Event - a Sunday afternoon, hands-on learning for 3rd & 4th graders partnered with a parent/adult.

  • PowerXpress Summer classes at 9:30 am run from the first Sunday in June through Labor Day Sunday.

  • "Class of the Month" display featuring students’ artwork and insights.

  • Theme Classes for children and/or their parents featuring topics such as effective parenting, marriage enrichment, children of divorced parents, family relationships, tips for safety, child abuse, children and discipline / television / self-esteem and faith.

  • Book Fairs

  • Library books and videotapes for children and parents are available to check out and take home to read or view.

  • Special projects such as making the videotape for teacher appreciation Sunday.
  • The Way of the Child: Helping Children Experience God is a formational approach which nurtures a child's relationship with God.
We are a community graced by God's love,
called to be and make disciples of Jesus Christ.
