Mission Of The United Methodist Women
To work to build a supportive community among women; to be an advocate for the oppressed and dispossessed with special attention to the needs of women and children; and to engage in activities that foster growth in the Christian faith, mission education, and Christian social involvement through United Methodist Women.
We are members of the Richmond District UMW and Virginia Conference UMW. We sent over $4500 Pledge to the Richmond District in 2007. We also pay a $2.25 per member fee.
The Trinity United Methodist Women is an organization of over 200 mission oriented women who belong to 10 active small groups called Circles. These Circles meet monthly in homes and at Trinity at various times. The focus of the Circles is service to others within the church, the community and the world with an emphasis on missions. An Executive Board meets the second Tuesday each month, followed by Unit meetings and programs from September through May. Judy Oguich is our Trinity Staff Liaison.
Trinity's United Methodist Women sponsor monthly programs that support our mission outreach focusing on women, youth and children. A catered lunch is available following most programs. The annual Harvest Day Service focuses on selected mission recipients. The chairs for this year’s service are Shari Adams and Melissa Matherly. The Call to Prayer and Self-Denial Service, organized by Carol Crowder and Circle volunteers, supports women who work in mission careers. The May Banquet is a covered-dish dinner to celebrate our yearly accomplishments, organized this year by Sara Tudor and Catherine Tudor - Spanning the Generations of Women at Trinity. All members of Trinity and guests are welcome at all events. Child care is available for special events.
In addition to our monthly mission emphasis, Trinity Women are supporting a variety of activities and groups within Trinity UMC and our community: WFN and Lenten Lunch table setting, Moms and More Bazaar, Upward Basketball, the Pumpkin Patch, College-age mission trip, College freshmen, the District United Methodist Russian Bishop Luncheon, Richmond District UMW Prayer Breakfast (hosted by TUMC UMW March 2009), Covenant Woods, The Hermitage (monthly visits by Circles led by Alyce West), Trinity’s Acolytes, Trinity’s shut-ins, William Byrd, Oak Grove-Bellemeade Elementary School, CrossOver Clinic, Children in Honduras served by the medical mission team, UMFS teens, Goochland and Fluvanna Prisons and UMCOR.
Each Circle has a missionary and undertakes its own unique mission and service projects while nurturing members in Christian love and friendship.
