Summer Nights: Trinity’s Family Cook-out

Summer Nights: Trinity’s Family Cook-out

On May 25, Trinity kicked off the ‘Summer Nights at Trinity’ program with our family cook-out. More than 200 people from Trinity and the surrounding community came together for a time of food, music, and fellowship. The weather was beautiful and the volunteers did a great job preparing excellent food for all.

One participant noted that she “loved how generations within families attended – parents with their adult children and their grandchildren, loved how grandparents brought their grandchildren, LOVED how people just showed up – confessed they didn’t make a reservation – but we were able to welcome them anyway.” She continued, “I also loved the conversations around my table and didn’t want to get up and leave when it was over!”

As part of the cookout, a love offering was taken to help raise money for UNVIM Virginia tornado relief efforts in Virginia. Through your generosity $657.00 was collected in this offering.

Here are a few photos from the event.

Blessing of the Animals 2016

Blessing of the Animals 2016

Despite the pouring rain on Saturday, October 8, an undeterred crowd of Trinity folks and pets gathered outside the Welcome Center to celebrate the Blessing of the Animals. We shared in a liturgy of music, scripture, message, and blessing our animal companions. In our gathering, reading, and singing, we were reminded of the connection and interdependence of all of God’s creatures and the whole of creation. We remembered that God made us stewards of creation and that we need to care for it. The highlight of the service came when we brought forward the nonhuman members of our families (some in person, and some in picture) for individual laying on of hands and blessing by name. Great thanks go to Pastor Drew and the Creation Care Committee for leading this joyful experience of worship!

Young at Heart – We’re Moving, Learning, Sharing!

Young at Heart – We’re Moving, Learning, Sharing!

October was a big month for Trinity’s Young at Heart group. Twenty-three seniors headed to beautiful Charlottesville, VA where they visited historic Michie Tavern for lunch. After spending some time at Michie Tavern, the group headed to Carter Mountain Orchard to pick apples and enjoy the wonderful fall foliage.

On Sunday, October 23, the Young at Heart partnered with Trinity’s TYM (Trinity Youth Ministry) for Teen-Taught Technology. The middle and high school students took time to teach our seniors about their technological devices. Approximately 20 seniors brought their cell phones, iPads, and questions. Questions were answered and knowledge was shared!

One participant said, “Teen Taught Technology was a wonderful event – most importantly because it brought adults and youth together. The youth were patient with us “seniors” and they were able to answer all of our questions. What a great group of youth Trinity has! We also enjoyed fellowship over pizza – an added bonus! We need to do more events like this that brings generations together!”

All Night Long: TYM Lock-In

All Night Long: TYM Lock-In

October was full of shrieks and howls as the Trinity Youth Ministry wrapped up Pumpkin Season with a Lock-In. Youth Group focused on missions for the entire month of October starting with Pastor Drew Willson joining us on a Sunday night to explain why we serve. (Answer: We are on a Mission of Reconciliation). The month unfolded with pumpkin sales (proceeds support mission trips) and service projects. In an unprecedented move the Young at Heart class attended youth group to get technical support from Trinity’s tech-savvy teens.

After a month of focusing on others and preparing for missions, the team unwound with a Lock-In. What do 70 teenagers do all night when they are locked up inside our church. Well, you have to chaperone to get the answer to that question but here are some hints … popcorn/honey facials, breakfast at midnight, hands-on explorations of what scares us, and more! The Trinity Youth wish to thank everyone who bought a pumpkin, prayed for our ministry and shared our church building for a fun-filled October.

Building Blocks

Building Blocks

Did you know that there are rules for connecting LEGOs and rules for connecting humans? The LEGO Event started with a video that highlighted 5 rules for Kid Connection;

  1. Be Humble
  2. Don’t be Selfish
  3. Forgive
  4. Tell the Truth
  5. Stay connected to Jesus

The scripture for the event was “And because you belong to him, you too are being built together. You are being made into a house where God lives through his Spirit.” Ephesians 2:22.

The 65 LEGO builders had a great time building, interacting with the nearly 25 youth and adult volunteers and sharing pizza. The most exciting thing was that the kids were having fun while learning how to connect with their friends and Jesus!
